Online Resource for Lothians Habitat Networks launched
Spring 2009

Landmanagers, planners, developers and members of the public will now be able to access new information about habitat Networks across the Lothians thanks to a new online resource developed by ELFHNP. The Partnership’s website now includes 2 new sections which aim to get people more involved in enhancing and exploring the Region’s woods and green places.

The first section provides a resource for land managers who want to undertake projects to develop the network through new planting and habitat management. This section provides downloadable maps of the habitat networks with some practical tips, do’s and don’ts for how to go about undertaking a project. This section will also be invaluable  for land use planners and developers who may be considering the impact of a particular development on the habitat network. It may suggest positive options for how the impact of a development can be mitigated through robust green infrastructure development.

The second new section of the website provides information to the general public about woods and green places to visit across the Lothians. The resource comprises a clickable map of the Region with links to a diverse range of sites including country estates, urban green spaces, path networks and sites managed by national conservation bodies. There are walks and locations suitable for all ages and abilities; from a gentle stroll to a challenging cross country hike.

Ian whitehead, the ELFHNP Officer said “We are delighted to provide this online resource to promote the Region’s green assets to wider audiences. There is scope for everyone to get involved in enhancing and enjoying the green heritage of the Lothians. Exploring the Region’s woodlands and green corridors can, not only, make you happier and healthier but can also provide inspiration about the importance of looking after our natural environment. We hope as many people as possible can get involved to make a difference”
