Good news about improving greenspaces and natural habitats for local communities, business and biodiversity

Lothians Forestry Framework; draft available

5 March 2009

The Lothians Forestry Framework draft document is now available for download from the ELFHNP website. The Framework  presents a vision for Forestry within Edinburgh and the Lothians over the next 40 years.

The key aspiration of the Framework is that the Region will have attractive biodiverse networks of forest, woodlands, greenspaces and semi-natural habitats. These networks will contribute to the development of a strong local economy and will provide diverse benefits for residents including recreation, health and wellbeing.

The Framework links very closely with the Scottish Government’s agenda of sustainable economic growth whilst also linking in with mainstream international, European and UK environmental policy.

Ian Whitehead the Partnership’s Officer said “We are very pleased to launch our draft Framework document which I’m sure will deliver tremendous long term benefits for the people of Edinburgh and the Lothians over the next 40 years. The Framework touches on all aspects of sustainable development and provides a template for action across our Region. It is important that we now work together to deliver real projects on the ground. This will only be achieved through collaborative working and through putting local people and organisations very much at the heart of the process. I am confident we can do this to make Edinburgh and the Lothians a greener and healthier place for both people and biodiversity”.

Copies of the draft Framework document can be downloaded from the partnership’s website at http://www.elfhnp.org.uk/vision.html  There is also a draft summary document which can be downloaded from the same location.
