Pentland Hills woods receive a funding boost
10 October 2010
The Partnership has recently been successful in receiving a £32,000 award from the recently launched CSGN Development Fund. The funding will be used to take forward proposals to increase woodland cover in and around the Pentland Hills as part of a more strategic approach to woodlands in the area.
The aim of this project is to carry out scoping, consultation and development work for woodland expansion and management in 5 core areas which have been previously identified in the Pentland Hills Woodland Action Plan which has been developed by LFGNP. The Plan sets the scene for developing of a strategic, targeted and action based approach to woodland management in and around the Pentland Hills. In particular this recognises the potential to create enhanced linkage between the woodlands within the Pentland Hills Regional Park and surrounding habitat networks.
LFGNP is taking forward work to realise the vision of the Action Plan within the identified core areas. Development work is identifying and specifying practical actions on the ground to enhance the landscape quality of the wider area whilst providing social and recreational benefits for local people and visitors.
The project will involve a considerable amount of consultation work with local landowners and other interest groups around the Hills to determine the best locations for intervention. Owners will also be given help to draw up detailed plans and to submit funding applications for work on the ground.
LFGNP has produced detailed habitat mapping to indentify new woodland creation opportunities. This has been used to inform the development of the proposals within the Action Plan. For further information about the project please click here
