Roslin Glen plan on track

2nd October 2010

Work is now at an advanced stage on the development of a woodland management plan for the Roslin Glen area of the North Esk.

The Plan covers a rich and varied section of the North Esk including the Roslin and Bilston Glen Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), as well as Roslin Glen and  Springfield Mill Country Parks. Some of the more challenging issues which the Plan hopes to address in the area include improvements to woodland biodiversity, the spread of invasive species, access, signage and anti-social behaviour.

Work on developing the plan is currently being taken forward by consultants Mark Hamilton and Donald McPhilimy. The work includes a significant consultation component to include the views of landowners, local communities and special interest groups. A number of drop in events have taking place to sound out the views of local people and to report back on the development of the Plan.

The final plan will be available early next year. The intention is to use this as the starting point for work to improve the quality, biodiversity and access potential of the North Esk River Corridor. This includes looking at the potential for strategic access routes up the Glen, woodland management works and improvements to visitor facilities on the ground.
